Rep. Herrero files HB 1906: A Vital Tool to Stop the Cycle of Violence
State Representative Abel Herrero, D-Robstown, filed HB 1906 to encourage the use of GPS monitoring as a tool to end family violence.
“Because it takes great courage for family violence survivors to break free from their abusers, we must support them at every step, “Rep. Herrero said. “This legislation helps provide additional notice to survivors that may Mena the difference between life and death.”
HB 1906 establishes a statewide grant program to help more counties utilize GPS monitoring in family violence cases. The legislation builds on the efforts of Mary’s Law, authored by Rep. Herrero in 2009, which allowed a judge to issue a GPS device to a defendant as a condition of bond in a family violence case, with the survivor’s consent.
